Industrial design:

It is the creation of a new product to be performed by one or a group of people (depending on the nature and type of the product concerned) through the development of a new or an existing idea which can lead-through specific processes-to the creation of an object that on return, after its development, can be commercialized and sold.

It can be massively produced or the needs of the produced product can be quantified based on the target market that has initially requested it.

This separation leads to the final choice of production mode, i.e. in which way this product can be produced.

Product design process:

It initially includes the determination of the type of the request, the creation of new ideas through several initial drafts, then the selection of the final first ones to turn into final designs (3D virtual models).

The construction of pre-models of the final designs from wood greatly helps the designer to understand better what he has designed, giving him the possibility of individual changes that may occur by working on the ergonomics of the object and its use.

Another option is to 3D print the virtual template (3D design) to evaluate the item and its use. These two versions help to revise the design and improve it in order to meet the initial development criteria of the produced product.

The role of the industrial designer:

His role is to combine art, science, technology, as well as empirical knowledge, perceptions or even influences to create new products that people can use.

He is also called upon to redefine specific groups of products or an existing product by giving his own design approach based on concepts such as functionality, usability, ergonomics, composition and form. Other aspects of it include engineering design especially when issues of functionality or utility arise that can be characterized by the term "problem solving" where the original design framework is reviewed and analyzed to clearly determine the viability or success of the overall project.

Industrial design, what it is & what it deals with:

It is a design process applied to products that will be massively produced. It is a creative process that identifies and defines the form and characteristics of a product, which is done before its production. This production, when it occurs, is repetitive and often automated.

It is also concerned with the union of form (which can be artistic) and usability usually associated with craft design and ergonomics in order to massively produce goods.

When the design as approach is based on craftsmanship the form of the product is largely determined by the creator of the product. It is influenced by different factors such as materials, production process, strategy, business and existing commercial, social and aesthetic attitudes. As an applied art it usually focuses on combinations of aesthetics and the user's considerations and often offers solutions to problems of functionality, ergonomics, morphology, marketing and branding, sustainability and sales.

As applied Arts we can include all arts that when they combine design and decoration make products or objects- aesthetically- very pleasing. Fine art is intended to stimulate the intellect or be beautiful while simultaneously produce objects that have no practical use. These two usually cover each other and the applied arts are often covered by the decorative arts. The modern construction of an applied art is often called design.

Industrial design – definition:

It studies form, ergonomics, functionality and the connection between user, product and environment. It usually deals with small-scale projects and not with large complex projects such as buildings or ships. They do not design mechanical parts such us gears, motors or circuits but can influence - through usability, form and functionality design- different aspects of a project.
